This project explores the relationship between texture and contrast. Hand sandblasted steel, a black DLC bezel, and a custom matte black dial create a restrained composition where every finish has been carefully considered.
The Owner’s Vision
The project developed through close collaboration between the owner and our design team. Several design directions were explored before arriving at a restrained composition where texture, rather than color, became the defining element.
Hand Sandblasted Case
The case and bracelet were entirely hand sandblasted in our Swiss workshops using a fine abrasive blasting process. This treatment creates a uniform matte texture while preserving the polished bevels that define the original geometry. The contrast between these finishes enhances the architecture of the bracelet and case without altering their proportions.
Black DLC Bezel
The bezel was coated in black diamond like carbon (DLC). Applied as an ultra thin carbon layer in a controlled vacuum process, it provides excellent resistance to wear while introducing a deep black finish that contrasts with the sandblasted steel.
Custom Matte Black Dial
A newly manufactured matte black dial was produced specifically for this project. Hand painted black hour markers filled with white Super-LumiNova preserve legibility while reinforcing the monochrome composition. The original dial was preserved and returned to its owner, allowing the watch to be restored to its original configuration if desired.
