NO.261

This project explores the contrast between matte surfaces and precious reflections. A gray DLC case, black diamond-set bezel, and grained black dial create a restrained composition built around texture, contrast, and light.
The Owner’s Vision
The project began with an interest in black diamonds and their unusual visual qualities. Unlike traditional diamonds, they absorb light as much as they reflect it. Working closely with the owner, we developed a design in which precious materials remain present, but never dominant.

Preparation and Restoration
The transformation begins with the complete dismantling of the watch. Our watchmakers service the movement while our jewelers restore and refine each component by hand, preparing the metal surfaces for the finishing stages that follow.

Black Diamonds Bezel
The bezel was specially manufactured for this project and set with 48 black diamonds totaling 3.73 carats. Sourced from ethical origins in Angola, the stones were selected for visual consistency and precision cut into square baguettes. The setting was executed by a master gem setter, who adjusted seat depth and pressure stone by stone to achieve a uniform result.

Custom Dial and Indexes
A newly manufactured dial was developed specifically for this project. Its fine grained black texture echoes the matte finish of the gray DLC case, reinforcing the monochrome composition of the watch. The hands and indexes were hand painted in black and filled with black Super LumiNova to preserve nighttime legibility.

Gray DLC Treatment
The case received a matte gray diamond like carbon (DLC) coating. This ultra thin layer of carbon provides high resistance to wear while preserving the original geometry of the components. Fully reversible, the treatment allows the watch to be returned to its original configuration. For this project, the client selected an industrial gray finish with a fine grained texture.
